I Discovered a Wonderful Book For Parents to Read/Discuss With Their Kids

Hi Everyone,

While writing for my upcoming book, I Am Awesome:  A Healthy Workbook For Kids, I did some research on multiple intelligences.  I found an excellent book on the topic:  You Are Smarter Than You Think: A Kid’s Guide to Multiple Intelligences, By Thomas Armstrong, PH.D., Free Spirit Publishing, Minneapolis, MN, 2009.

Although the writing is directed towards kids, I think a grandparent, aunt, counselor or parent would have to sit down with the student and introduce the book to him or her, only because I don’t know how the student would otherwise choose to find the book on his or her own.  You Are Smarter Than You Think is based on the Theory of Multiple Intelligences, presented by Dr. Howard Gardner, a psychologist and professor of education at Harvard University, in 1983.  Dr. Gardner and Mr. Thomas both feel that everyone is intelligent, to different degrees, in the following eight areas: Linguistic Intelligence;  Musical Intelligence;  Logical-Mathematical Intelligence;  Spatial Intelligence;  Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence; Interpersonal Intelligence;  Intrapersonal Intelligence; and Naturalist Intelligence.

This book helps the reader figure out which intelligences are his or her strongest; lists ideas of how to improve in each area of intelligence;suggests what career paths would ‘fit’ each type of intelligence;  and, much more!  I guess you’ll just have to buy or check out the book to find out for yourself!

Take care, everyone!
